If you have found a treasure which has a mix of old rusted copper coins and some old gold coins. What will you do if you have very limited time to encash them ?
Will you spend time in thinking of the strategy to sell the gold coins by shining them and packaging them or you will spend time in polishing the copper coins also.
Obviously, common sense says first encash the gold coins if the time is limited. Think about the copper coins later if there is enough time and energy left.
But in real life how many people follow this paradigm. If a person's appraisal or a student's report card mentions the strengths(Gold coins) and his/her weaknesses(copper coins) .
Most people ignore the strengths and concentrate on the weaknesses as most of us have been taught and guided to convert our weaknesses into strengths.
It takes enormous effort and time to neutralize a weakness, in most cases the improvement is miniscule. Instead, if we spend the same time and energy on honing our strengths, the rewards will be much greater. Consider Virendra Sehwag if he instead of honing his brilliant hand-eye coordination, had worked on his poor footwork and posture , would he been so successful?
Or Had Anil Kumble instead of concentrating on accuracy-line or length had focused on spinning the ball would he be as successful?
Nature does it almost effortlessly , everybody plays to their strengths , deer run for life, monkey climb trees, tiger attack stealthily.
Any successful person is always known for his/her strengths and not for his/her weaknesses. Same thing applies in the corporate world, a company who sticks to it"s core competency has a better chance for success and is also better known.
So here is a thought for today, identify at least three of your strengths and work on them day in day out and you will be successful . Do not bother about your weaknesses, people might laugh at it today but in the long term your strengths will over shadow them. Sachin Tendulkar and Manmohan Singh have a squeaky voice and a undistinguished personality but their enormous strengths in cricketing and financial skills respectively have over shadowed their weaknesses.
Body Language Postures
Reading the Movements of the Body
Posture can determine if a person has an attitude, if the person is overbearing, and the like. If a person is standing, a person may lean against an obstacle to rest the body, or else stand straight up, thus showing a good posture as well as a purposeful meaning.
If a person has a balanced posture thus it can be interpreted as a sexual attraction. This may mean in some cultures that the person has an adapting personality and that the person is balanced properly.
Men in authoritative workplaces are commanded to sit up, stand up, and lie down with a posture in complete alignment. This is a symbolizing of respect and control.
Women often have a better posture than men, yet at what time illnesses set in it can affect the way a person sites, lie, or stands.
Usually at what time a person is standing or sitting with an aligned posture it means there health may be in good condition. You will also notice the chest area extending outward, while the head area is held up high. The person is often in control.
Other signals are often sent regardless of how the body is positioned. In other words the posture is a stand-behind the hands, eyes, mouth, and other parts of the body. The hands and eyes often make the most powerful body languages recognizable to all. For example, a woman with a fabulous posture may endure unwarranted male attraction. This could put the woman in a position to use the body to signal that the attention is not wanted. The woman could be sitting in an upright position and as a man approaches she may use her hand pointing it sideways and straight up while giving a firm NO. This will let the man know that his company is not needed.
On one hand the posture can send messages of dominance, while at other times the posture could appear natural. For example, a man may use his posture or stance, puffing up his chest and with his eyes staring into the eyes of the other party involved. If the stare lingers longer than a couple of minutes and no words are crossed it may be a sign of trouble.
A person could stand with a leg extended slightly frontward, hands in pocket, and arms bent slightly. This could be a symbol of relaxing, while standing in position.
Men when they are gathering and talking will often employ the last stance, unless the person is authoritative. A person standing with his arms folded across his chest in an upright position is showing a sign of control, while demonstrating that his defenses are prepared for the possible situation as it arises. Thus, he is showing a sign of control, while showing he feels slightly or immensely threatened in his environment.
Postures are seen while sitting, standing or lying down. While the body sits it will most times sit in an upright position with the knees bent, legs crossed and likewise. Men often place their hands over their chest while resting in a chair, which is a sign of comfortableness. Some people even prop their knees and legs up with one leg spread and the other leg firmly gripping the seat area. This too is a comfortable symbol.
If you are going for an interview your best bet is to sit up in the chair properly without slanting or dangling the posture. This will show the interviewer that you are in control of your situation. It will also let him/her know you are not threatened by the meeting.Ways to Boost Your Self Esteem Quickly
| 1) Think back to when you did something new for the first time. Learning something new is often accompanied by feelings of nervousness, lack of self belief and high stress levels, all of which are necessary parts of the learning process. The next time you feel under-confident, remembering this will remind you that it's perfectly normal - you're just learning! 2) Do something you have been putting off. Like writing or calling a friend, cleaning the house, tidying the garden, fixing the car, organizing the bills, making a tasty and healthy meal - anything that involved you making a decision, then following through! 3) Do something you are good at. Examples? How about swimming, running, dancing, cooking, gardening, climbing, painting, writing… If possible, it should be something that holds your attention and requires enough focus to get you into that state of 'flow' where you forget about everything else. You will feel more competent, accomplished and capable afterwards, great antidotes to low self esteem! And while you're at it, seriously consider doing something like this at least once a week. People who experience 'flow' regularly seem to be happier and healthier. 4) Stop thinking about yourself! I know this sounds strange, but low self esteem is often accompanied by too much focus on the self. Doing something that absorbs you and holds your attention can quickly make you feel better. 5) Get seriously relaxed. If you are feeling low, anxious or lacking in confidence, the first thing to do is to stop thinking and relax properly. Some people do this by exercising, others by involving themselves in something that occupies their mind. However, being able to relax yourself when you want is a fantastic life skill and so practicing self hypnosis, meditation, or a physically-based relaxation technique such as Tai Chi can be incredibly useful. When you are properly relaxed, your brain is less emotional and your memory for good events works better. A great 'rescue remedy'! 6) Remember all the things you have achieved. This can be difficult at first, but after a while, you'll develop a handy mental list of self-esteem boosting memories. And if you're thinking "But I've never achieved anything", I'm not talking about climbing Everest here. Things like passing your driving test (despite being nervous), passing exams (despite doubting that you would), playing team sport, getting fit (even if you let it slip later), saving money for something, trying to help someone (even if it didn't work) and so on. 7) Remember that you could be wrong! If you are feeling bad about yourself, remember that you way you feel affects your thoughts, memory and behavior. So when you feel bad, you will only remember the bad times, and will tend to be pessimistic about yourself. This is where the tip 'Get Seriously Relaxed' comes in! Summary Once you have tried out a few of these, consider making them a permanent part of your life. For most people, good self esteem is not just a happy accident, it's a result of the way they think and the things they do from day to day. Good Luck! |

Seven gemstones for success
When you set a goal, no matter how difficult it seems to accomplish, don't be afraid to take the risk. In life, some sacrifices are worth the challenge. So, stop making excuses. Life is too short to miss out on reaching for your goals and realizing dreams do come true. With a little effort and a little time on your part make a commitment to go for it!
If your goals and your dreams are good ones a plan is required to make them real. Develop a time plan or a target. For instance, when you know the end result you wish to accomplish, you might list several mini targets to work on first.
Your initial target plan might look like this:
If you wish to lose 20 k.gs, set up a weekly schedule. The first week you might start a daily exercise program. Second week- start cutting back on sugar and sweets. Third week - try and lowering your daily intake of calories, and so on until your goal weight is achieved.
If you wish to take a trip abroad (or wherever), or if you desire to expand your business, the strategy would be similar. You may need to set up a weekly or monthly schedule to put a sum away toward the cost of the trip or the cost needed to purchase more space and more equipment for the business. You could cut back on your spending and put the savings aside, or take on an extra paying project until you reach your required goal. When you've accumulated sufficient funds for the trip or the down payment on the larger business space and more equipment, you can plan your next target.
So that you may have a richer, fuller, more rewarding life, putting a system together to target your success and make your dreams a reality may include the following seven gems:
1. Set reasonable goals and target dates. Day to day living makes a lot of demands on you - your time, your physical and emotional energy, and your responsibilities. Do not set yourself up for defeat. Master one goal at a time and do not expect instant gratification. With the onset of the microwave, and then along comes the computer and the internet both giving ways to shortcut everything you do, trying to stay focused isn't always easy.
2. Be the master of your thoughts. Dream big. A small goal takes just as much time and effort as a giant one. Think your goal through and keep a record of your ideas and a time schedule of what needs to be done and when. Seek help where needed.
3.Choose goals that you are passionate about. Motivation and inspiration are powerful forces that keep you moving toward your goals. Positive attitudes are also helpful. And of course, never forget your faith and the knowledge that a higher power is available to help you reach your goal. Remember: Nothing is easy, and everything takes time - lots of it. So, be patient -it eliminates the stress.
4.Stay healthy and practice taking care of yourself - first. When you aren't feeling well, everyone around you is affected -your family, your friends and associates, and your business clients. Try to stay flexible and allow enough time to work on any project so you won't have to rush. The old saying: "Haste makes waste," is often true and may even cause a serious accident. And if you are a sole proprietor, when illness or accidents happen, this could mean a devastating loss of business income.
5.Don't be afraid to take risks. Fear is an internal blockage that you impose on your thoughts. It is a way of making excuses for not dealing directly with your anxiety. Or, you may not wish to face the outcome. What if it doesn't work out? Instead, replace your thoughts of fear with your own source of strength and let your inner support system guide you.
6.Keep a list of your qualities and values. What do you consider to be your most valuable asset? Do you know which of your qualities you need to make stronger? Make a list of those qualities and values that you think are the best you, those that make you feel most secure, and give you your highest self-esteem. Some of these may include: self-confidence, a forgiving nature, courage, being a good listener, trustworthy and honest, and a willingness to inspire others.
7. Keep your emotions under control. A peaceful attitude and an awareness of your surroundings go hand in hand with prosperity and success. When you are peaceful, your thoughts and actions come from a wide-awake place that is free of fear and confusion. You will see more clearly and act quickly. When you are at peace within yourself, you attract all that is good. You are more likely to bring success, happiness and prosperity to you. When you feel rich, you attract riches. And when you feel successful, you become successful.
Make it your goal to attract the best of gems to reach your success and prosperity!
Self Development
Among the most popular are:
-Appearance improvement
-Intellectual improvement
-Financial improvement
Dress to impress:
Appearance improvement is one of the most popular types of self-improvement motivation. For many people, there is always a pound to be lost, a gray hair to be covered up, or new clothing to be purchased. Other people get extremely obsessive about appearance improvement, paying thousands of dollars for nose jobs, liposuction, collagen implants, hair replacement, or other such procedures. Because of the media and the influence of Bollywood and Hollywood stars, people who are young, old, male, and female have become appearance improvement crazy. These are the often the same people who feel that appearance is all that matters in life.
Self-improvement motivation by the books:
Intellectual motivation is another key element of self-improvement motivation. The desire to become more educated or gain more knowledge on a subject drives many minds. Well-informed people are often perceived as powerful people. After all, knowledge is power.
Today, it is no surprise that more and more middle-aged adults are going back to school to get their bachelor's or master's degrees. This desire to get more education often stems from the fact that most companies are interested with employees who know how to use the latest and greatest software and computer programs. Companies are also interested in employees that have an up-to-date education. Many companies, especially larger ones, will pay for employees to go back to school or be trained for a specific job.
Financial improvement:
Another important element of self-improvement motivation is financial motivation. In reality, most people desire to have more money than they have at the present time. Perhaps a person wants to purchase a home, car, or an education. Perhaps someone needs to pay medical bills or legal fees, or raise a child. Finances are key to surviving in today's world. Financial self-improvement motivation often comes in the form of taking on a second or third job, investing in stocks or bonds, or learning how to save money wisely. Financial self-improvement motivation may also include asking a current employer for a promotion or a raise.
Overall, anything that motivates and in turn improves the physical, material, or mental part of a person is a form of self-improvement motivation. No one is perfect, but many of us can try to get as close as we can.
Tips on Time Management
Since you’re already neck deep with work, I won’t waste your time with pages of time management theories. In fact, I’ve limited myself to 5 simple ways to better manage your time and reduce your stress!
1. Avoid multi-tasking.
I know multi-tasking can appear to save you a lot of time, but that technique could backfire. A lot of people start out with multiple projects at the same time, and end up not being able to finish half of them.
To be more efficient, it’s best to finish what you have started before moving on to the next one in your to-do-list.
2. Get it right the first time.
Nothing wastes more time than having to do something over again. If you want to manage your time and reduce your stress, you’re going to have to do the project as best as you can the first time. That way, you’ll avoid having to make needless revisions.
3. Focus on your work.
Little things like taking coffee breaks, cigarette breaks, or even chatting with the person in the next cubicle eat away at your time.
If you have a gazillion thing to do, you have to stop taking so many breaks. When these breaks all add up, you’ll be surprised at how much time you have wasted.
However, it is a good idea to take a much-needed short break to recharge yourself, but only after you have fully focused on doing a task non-stop for an allotted time.
4. Get plenty of sleep.
Don’t be so surprised. If you want to manage your time and reduce your stress, you should be taking care of yourself. Your body needs to rest, so give it decent hours of sleep.
Staying up late can contribute to grogginess at work. When you suffer from lack of sleep, it shows in the kind of output you produce. It slows you down and even the easiest tasks can take twice as long to finish.
5. Don’t check your email sporadically.
Checking your email can take up more time than you think. The best way to check your email is to appoint a specific schedule for it.
Check your email after you’ve done all other important tasks. But if you find this difficult, you can check your e-mail once in the morning, and again before you finish your workday.
These are the 5 ways you can better manage your time and reduce your stress.
